The State Of The Denture Industry

14/09/2022

The global denture market is relatively fragmented, and most countries in the overseas market are dominated by relatively small local technical factories. Due to the advantages of labor costs, the domestic denture processing business accounts for 60%-70% of the global business. There are many denture processing companies, but the industry concentration is low. The market share of the top ten denture processing companies does not exceed 20%.

China's denture manufacturers are mainly located in the Pearl River Delta region centered on Shenzhen, and the Yangtze River Delta region centered on Shanghai.

Usually, regional denture enterprises can be established with only dozens to hundreds of technicians, with less capital investment and low entry barriers. Small-scale denture enterprises are limited by factors such as scale, capital, and technology, and can only serve local medical care. Institutions are mainly small dental clinics; large denture enterprises have production capacity and service networks covering different regions and markets, and can serve large public hospitals and large chain dental medical institutions nationwide.

Denture products are different from conventional medical devices:

1. Product production customization.

The shape, color, and materials of denture products must be produced according to the requirements of the order.

2. The product delivery time is short.

It must be completed within the agreed time (usually 3-7 days) from receipt of order to completion of product delivery (delivery to the doctor).

3. High requirements for products and services.

Doctors require manufacturers to provide timely and accurate services. The design of dentures is based on the model, but the model cannot fully reflect the actual situation of the patient's oral cavity. Therefore, a large number of medical technical communication services are required to ensure the feasibility of the doctor's restoration plan.

The processing barriers of dentures are not high, mainly reflected in product customization, delivery time and medical technology communication. The added value of its materials is higher than that of processing. In terms of upstream raw materials, dentures are mainly processed from zirconia ceramic blocks, ceramic powder and metal.

The technical barriers to zirconia production are relatively high, and the production capacity is relatively concentrated. At present, the global zirconia production enterprises are mainly concentrated in a few countries. Europe, Japan and China are the core production areas. According to statistics, in 2017, nearly 90% of the world's zirconia supply came from these three regions. The nano-composite zirconia production enterprises are mainly concentrated in Japan and Europe and the United States.
