What Is Dental Zirconia?

Dental technology has come a long way over the past 50+ years. New materials have been discovered and utilized to improve functionality, effectiveness and overall patient experience. An innovation in dentistry is the use of zirconia in crowns. Zirconia has a long history but has only been used in dentistry in recent years. Now it is one of the most efficient materials in the industry.

Zirconium oxide, also known as zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), is found in its most natural form in the mineral bileite.Dental zirconia crowns are made from zirconium dioxide,a white ceramic material. These powders are turned into different types of discs through a series of process procedures, which are used in conjunction with milling. In fact, these zirconias have gradually replaced metals in dentistry. Due to its superior strength and hardness, abrasion resistance, stability, scratch resistance and biocompatibility with the human body. One of the other most common uses of zirconia is in dental implants. Such as anterior teeth, posterior teeth, triple bridge, multiple bridge, coping, full contour, telescopic crown and so on.
